We got out of school last Friday and with that we finished our first school year at Rosslyn Academy. I must say it has been a great year on many levels but in this post I am going to specifically write about the joys of teaching this past year. I will let Jess post about the joys of working in the Admin. Building later. I taught 2nd grade this year, which was new for me, but I had an amazing group of students to work with. Teaching at Rosslyn has been a very unique experience, because even though I am teaching in Kenya, I am teaching a US curriculum very similar to what I was teaching in the States. Also the students I teach are from many different cultural backgrounds, not only Kenyan or American. The day to day business is really no different than what it is teaching back home. There are a few differences though, like seeing monkeys climbing in the trees when walking the students across campus or on the playground, listening to the students learn Swahili in language class, or having citizens of so many countries all sitting in my classroom at the same time. All in all, I could not have asked for a better group of kids to spend every weekday with for the last 10 months. Next year I am moving up to 3rd Grade, so I will have many of the same students again. Here are some pics from the year…
