Last week I was able to travel to Burundi to visit areas that have been devastated by flooding. Hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced due to rising water levels of Lake Tanganyika. I had the honor of traveling with Bishop Seth Nkeshimana, who is overseeing the response there. Please see the following video to learn more about my visit (there is also a news story below that gives more details on the situation):
Through the support of our partners, and a generous contribution from People to People Ministries, we have been able to partner with church leaders to provide the following relief to 300 households:
- 300 tents
- 3000kg of rice
- 2400kg of beans
- 1000kg of maize flour
- 15 packs of charcoal
We hope that this is just the beginning of our response. The needs are massive. In addition to immediate relief, in the future we would also like to be able to stand with these communities as they rebuild and start over. If you are interested in supporting these efforts, you can do so here: https://give.iphc.org/missionary/james-and-jessica-dunning (Choose Dunning Jamie Ministry option further down the page). We are also coordinating a relief response in Tana River County in Kenya, where 1,000 households from our partner communities have been displaced due to flooding. The entire region is being devastated by heavy rains and flooding. We will share more about the Kenya response soon.
As always, thanks for your prayers and generous support.
