Over the last several months, East Africa has been devastated by heavy rains. It is estimated that at least 1.6 million people were affected with 410,000 being displaced and 473 losing their lives. Fortunately, the rains have stopped and much of the water is receding, however the needs are still great. Many of the communities that we partner with in Kenya and Burundi were affected, and we are grateful that through the generous support of our partners we have been able to stand with them in this difficult time. We are grateful for our partners and community leaders (Bocha Hussein, Hadija Boru, Lucy Chengo, Bishop Seth and Bishop Ochieng) for their leadership and commitment to these communities. Over the last 2 months, we have been able to provide 14 US tons of food relief to approximately 2,000 households in 10 different communities. We have also been able to provide much needed tents for hundreds of displaced families in Burundi. We are continuing to provide relief and support to these communities in Burundi, as they wait for land allotments that the Government has promised. To read more about the specific situation in Burundi, please see our last update: https://dunningsinkenya.com/2024/05/08/burundi-relief-trip/
Thank you for you ongoing support that makes this type of relief possible, and please keep these communities in your prayers as they continue to recover.
