The Dunnings Come to Kenya….

We have been in Kenya for two years without having any of our family come over to visit (except when Lissy came to do some work our first year), but when we found out that Sophie was coming everything changed.  She was born at 7:29 pm on June 11 and Papa and Grammy Dunning landed in Nairobi at 8:50 pm.  They actually had multiple reasons for coming over….Sophie (grandchild #3), Melissa is moving here to work at Rosslyn, and to see where we live and the work we are involved in.  It has been great to have them here for the first 17 days of Sophie’s life and to have the extra baby holding hands.  We have been very busy with our new little girl but we still wanted to make sure Mom and Dad Dunning got a good Kenyan experience, so we worked in some visits to local orphanages, schools and churches we support, took them on a couple of game drives/walks, treated them to some unique dining experiences, planned a visit to a local tea farm, and of course gave them opportunities to do some bargain shopping at the market.  It was great to have them here and it was a blessing to see how they embraced every experience.  They never failed to see the beauty around them and to make the most of every moment.  They embraced the culture, the food, the people, and even the potholes!  We are so thankful they were able to come and even more thankful that they “got it.”  When they left they told us that after visiting and seeing the landscapes, the community we live in at Rosslyn, and the faces of the children at the orphanges that they completely understand why we would choose to live here, and of course that means everything to us.  Who knows….they loved it so much maybe God is going to bring them over here for good one day!  Thanks so much for coming and sharing our Kenyan experience with us Mom and Dad, and for being here to welcome Sophie into the world.  We love you and miss you already!
